Twenty chimpanzees in western Uganda are fighting to survive, now that their forests have been inundated and nearly completely cleared for subsistence farms.  The Bulindi Survivors have dropped in numbers from 30 to 35 individuals in 2008 to just 20 today, and Dr. Matt McLennan of Oxford Brookes University tells us the situation is urgent.  Sadly, more than 80% of the forest has been cleared since Dr. McLennan’s study began in 2006.  Inevitably, the chimpanzees have had to rely increasingly on stealing human crops, and thus, conflict levels...

To Our ChimpSaver Friends: Thanks for being a part of ChimpSaver.org and its work to expand the community of people helping chimpanzees.  I am a former student of Dr. Jane Goodall, and this effort grew out of a 2008 return visit to East Africa with my family.  We learned that chimps are extinct in 4 countries and nearly so in 10 others.  In some areas, forests are falling more rapidly than one can imagine.
